Malnutrition and CANCER
Malnutrition is frequently a problem among cancer patients and it has many important repercussions on clinical treatment. There are three reasons for this:
- Cancer treatments have side-effects, such as GI tract disorders, nausea and vomiting, which cause involuntary weight loss,
- Metabolic disturbances which increase energy needs and make nutritional intake ineffective,
- Changes in taste and smell with the development of food aversions disturb correct eating.
> The nutritional needs of malnourished cancer patients are specific and need to be adapted to their general status, the tumor location (Head and neck, intestinal tract, etc.)
and the treatment (chemo-therapy, radiotherapy ± disabling surgery). |
CASTASE® is a nutritional programme with a low polyamine content which is rich in energy, proteins and Omega 3, specifically formulated for malnourished cancer patients.
The CASTASE®nutritional programme provides malnourished patients with all the required nutrients for a balanced diet (proteins, energy, vitamins and minerals) while limiting their polyamine intake.
